New spill started by tow boats in New Orleans

The BP oil spill will affect everyone around the Gulf of Mexico for years and years. Now the Associated Press reports that New Orleans is back within the thick of an oil slick thanks to an errant tow boat called the Pere Ana C. . .

Well located south of New Orleans

The gushing oil well is located in an inland waterway along the border between Plaquemines Parish and Jefferson Parish, approximately 65 miles south of New Orleans. Roads won’t bring you directly to the place. Workers for the recovery were stationed in Barataria Bay already moving oil from the Deepwater Horizon disaster within the Gulf of Mexico. Right now, it hasn’t been reported who owns this well. However, as outlined by Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts, the amount of oil gushing out from the Pere Ana C. collision is considerable. Since you can only get to the area on a boat, not much is known about the recovery or how much is leaking. Since there are gas clouds reported in the area, officials worry about natural oil leaking also.

Near Mud Lake Pere Ana C. struck

Mud Lake was the approximate location of the Pere Ana C. collision early Tuesday morning. After the accident, the Coast Guard ship was moved to the LaRose area. There have been no injuries reported yet. Media sources say that authorities are trying to discover who the well belongs to so they can find someone to clean it up. It’s unknown whether expense of the cleanup will approach what has already been spent by BP for local cleanup following Deepwater Horizon.
